What is there to write? The water was high, my friend John from Australia was visiting, and so after paddling Brown's the previous day for a warm-up, we decided to do the traditional Tuesday run down the Numbers. Pine Creek was pumping at 1,900 cfs, the hole not its most retentive but pretty close, and so it was worth a look. Along with us came Chris Lau (of course), Ross Elgin, and Scott McLaughlin.
It was a big decision for me -- I shied away from running any Class V water since Brian's kayaking accident in Ecuador earlier this year, and haven't run Pine Creek since. Last year I ran it dozens of times, and yet this year I couldn't quite get the motivation. Now that it was most likely at its highest, I decided to get over my fear and go for it.
Only three of us ran the Pine Creek section -- we met up past the hole, and joined by John and Ross continued on through the Numbers.
The water was big -- the whole run took probably at most 20 seconds. Chris led the way, I was close behind, and Scott took his time somewhere in the back. We all picked different lines to go through the main hole -- Chris far right, I the far left, and Scott somewhere in the middle.
